NEWS HOUND on the trail of a good story.
THE SOUTH EASTERN HOUND CLUB PREMIER SHOW
6th September 2009 - the Hickstead Showground, West Sussex.
This local annual event
is popular with many of the dog show fraternity within the branch.
Previously, it was held
at a venue near Crawley, but this year moved to this altogether more
impressive venue. In fact, many of us were tempted to wear jodpurs and
riding boots, but decided that these were better left at home.
In the past, the various
breed clubs treated this summer show as an excuse to hold a picnic. But
the Basset Hound crowd had not done this for many years. Last year, most
other breeds managed to shelter under their gazebos during the continual
downpour that we experienced; while we
with the low hounds were left to brave the elements. So, a few of us
resolved to revive the tradition and attempt a small ‘do’ at this year’s
show.
And jolly fun it was,
too. This was not a branch event and everyone was welcome to join in, and
it was nice to see members and non-members enjoy the party atmosphere and,
with a small gazebo to protect against any summer storms, we enjoyed a
modest picnic with food and drink.
This turned out to be a
really lovely day out with the hounds in very pleasant surroundings. Next year’s show is on 5th September, it is a good
opportunity for anyone who has never attended a dog show to come along and
see what takes place and you can also help us get through the picnic!
