LOWDOWN Summer 2010 page 5

As many of you will know, Rosemary (Izard Corbett) did not stand for re-election as Hon Secretary, having served in that onerous office since the Branch was revived.

All members owe her a debt of gratitude because at the meeting when the Branch would have been wound up, it was she who volunteered to take that key office and produced the first few bulletins of the re-vitalised Branch.

The first two Fun Days were held at ‘Moonsmead’.

I appreciate she feels she needs a break to devote uninterrupted time to her kennels without the pressure that is the lot of a Secretary.

It was a pleasure for me to have worked with her in those early days, as the Branch found its feet once more.

Now, my pleasant task is to welcome Frankie (Roberts) as our new secretary; and there is no doubt that she will take to her task like a duck to water or, in her case, like a plane to runway!

The other Officers and Committee will work with her as an enthusiastic team, offering their support if needed.

I hope Frankie will take pleasure in her new challenge.

WANTED ALIVE!

The Committee feels they would welcome a younger person to give a different slant on matters and so widen our scope.

If anyone reading this is such a person, please make contact any Officer or Committee member; so we can consider co-opting to the Committee.

We get through the tasks in hand, but in a fun sort of way.

Don’t be fright, we don’t bite !

(Ed. Although we might drool a bit!)

‘OUR’ BARBECUE

In view of the enthusiastic comments on ‘our’ barbecue over the years, Jill and I are delighted that members still want to come, even though we are to the west of our region, and for some it is a longish journey.

However, methinks you are too kind, as we really only provide the basics and it’s the assortment of interesting salads, delicious deserts, assorted cheeses, and other embellishments bought by those attending, that turn it into a feast.

Although everyone blends in so well, it is our hounds who are the stars, giving us fun and having fun themselves, whilst being unbelievably well behaved (tempting providence!).

So, we hope to welcome you this year to what is, in large part, ‘your’ barbecue.
